Ski Camp - Delayed Start By One Hour

Due to extremely icy conditions in some areas this morning, we want to give the roads an extra hour to warm up and the ice to melt, so will now depart at 11:00 instead of 10:00.

We are asking that one person from each family (either skier or parent) shoot Susan an email (highschool@mainecoastwaldorf.org), letting me know you are all set to head out at 11:00 instead of 10:00. If Susan doesn't hear from you by 9:00, she will be making phone calls.

Ski Camp - December 2019

~ Updated Monday, December 23 ~

Due to an unfortunate lack of snow, ski camp is relocating to the Mount Washington Valley area of New Hampshire. The info below has been updated with new-New Hampshire details, so make sure to read everything carefully (especially the updated packing list).

SKI CAMP INFO …
Probably the most important thing to convey is that everyone should be sure to have the right gear for ski camp. Having the right clothes (layers are super important) will make for a much more pleasant experience for the week. If anyone thinks they are missing some critical piece of gear, do reach out to John ahead of time and he will help in getting/loaning you what you need.

Bring skis to school

Everyone should bring ski gear to school this week, in case we get enough snow in this next storm to make our way over to the golf course.

Practice info for the remainder of this week can be found on the Practice Info tab.

Practice this week

Since the amount of rain and warm temps isn't an exact science, everyone should bring skate skis and running gear tomorrow (Monday) so we'll be ready for anything. Once we know if skiing is possible, exact practice plans will be posted here and at school outside Susan's office.

Practice

Practice starts tomorrow - Monday, December 2! Everyone interested in being on the ski team is expected to attend all practices unless there is a specific reason on a particular day when you have a conflict (doctor appointment, injured, etc.). If there is ever a day you need to miss, you should tell John (coach) ahead of time and also let Susan know.

Welcome and Info

Welcome to the 2019-2020 Nordic season! Practices will start up the week after Thanksgiving and very soon we will be posting practice plans on a weekly basis, along with lots of other helpful info and details. A few things to note for now ...

Ski Camp:We are still pulling things together, but are thinking that we will have ski camp during the December vacation, possibly beginning on Friday, December 27 and lasting probably 3 days/2 nights. though depending on group interest, it could be 4 days/3 nights. It will not begin any earlier than the 27th, but could get pushed a day or two later. Finally, and VERY IMPORTANTLY, we will need a parent (or two) to "host" camp, going with the team, handling food, etc., so parents, please consider if this could be you. It is really fun to spend time with a great group of kids and ski camp can't happen without a parent helper, so please let Susan know if you can help out.

Upcoming Ski Swaps:
Anyone needing new equipment should consider one (or more) of the upcoming ski swaps. In the next few weeks, ski swaps can be found at:
Camden Hills Ski Sale - Saturday, November 23
2019 Yarmouth Ski Swap - Saturday, November 23
2019 Falmouth Ski Swap - Sunday, November 24

L.L.Bean Nordic Team Info Night:
Please save the date for our annual L.L.Bean Nordic Team Night. Details are outlined in the flyer below. Factory reps are coming back to offer one time special pricing, and we will have clinics for coaches and parents as well. L.L.Bean Nordic Ski Team Discount Cards will be distributed to all eligible athletes at this event. Special guest Kris Freeman will join us this year! Athletes should have a signed waiver or a coach available to sign in order to participate in the dryland training. Ask Susan for participant agreement forms.

Great news! No waiting for orders to arrive this year! We have already received gear to sell on sight at this event. We are hoping that a majority of the kids will be able to purchase and walk away with their ski sets the same day.
