Things to know for this week ...

  • We have two races this week - Friday and Saturday.  These races are run in a 'pursuit' format, which means that on day two, the skiers start out in the order of their finish of the day one race, with the exact time differentials of the day one finishes.  For instance,  if Skier A finishes 6 seconds behind Skier B on day one, then Skier A will start exactly 6 seconds after Skier B on day two, etc.
  • Classic race - Day 1 of the WMC Championships - scheduled for Friday at Libby Hill.  For snow reasons, there is a small possibility that it will get moved to Wednesday.  As soon as we have confirmation one way or the other, it will be posted here.
  • Check the bulletin board for the adjusted Friday schedule for this week and be sure to check in with the teachers of the classes you'll be missing.
  • Bring lunch to be eaten in the van on the way to the race.  We will be leaving school at noon or earlier.
  • We will have school vans going to the race at Libby Hill and can also bring skiers back to Desert Rd.  It would be very helpful to know who needs a ride back and who will be picked up at Libby Hill.  Please let Susan know by Thursday afternoon if you/your skier needs a ride back to Freeport after the race.
  • Skate race - Day 2 of the WMC Championships - at Stark's Hill in Fryeburg on Saturday.  We will have vans going to this race, and anyone wanting a ride on the van MUST let Susan know by 3:00pm on Thursday afternoon.  As of this time, we predict the vans will be departing Saturday morning by 8:30.
  • Remember that the team practices at Pineland until 5:00, with the van returning to Desert Rd around 5:20+.
Looking farther ahead ...
  • Next week will be practice as usual.  We might have a fun Valentine's Day race on Wednesday.  Stay tuned ...
  • The following week is school vacation, which is when the team is traveling to Fort Kent for the states races.  More details will follow soon, but for now, expect to leave Tuesday morning, February 20 and return either late on Thursday, February 22 or on Friday, February 23.  We are expecting all skiers to be on this trip and most skiers will be skiing in the states races.  If you have a significant conflict, you must speak to Susan asap.
  • After the state championship races, the ski team is officially over for the year.  Pineland passes are valid as long as Pineland is open, so everyone is encouraged to continue to ski on their own, just for fun :)
  • Some individuals will continue to train for independent events in March.  Note that school transportation is not provided after February vacation.
  • SAVE THE DATE - We have the end of season appreciation evening on the calendar for Tuesday, March 6 at 7:00 pm.
